GATE Counselling 2024
Students who are qualified in the GATE exam and willing to take admissions for higher studies need to participate in various GATE counselling processes.
The GATE counselling 2024 for admissions is centrally conducted by two major processes: CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan Admissions), COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal), and other counselling processes conducted at the state governments’ level.
CCMT Counselling 2024
CCMT is a common platform that provides a simplified admission process for students who are in search of admissions to M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. programs in premium institutes such as NITs, some IIITs, CFTIs, and IIEST Shibpur, considering their GATE scores of the present and also from the previous two years, through e-counselling services.
The list of the participating institutes will be released on its official website https://ccmt.admissions.nic.in/. The CCMT was initiated in the year 2012 and has been facilitating centralized admission to postgraduate programs through an online counselling process.
Candidates have to apply through the CCMT portal based on their GATE scores by selecting preferred programs in the participating institutes.
COAP Counselling 2024
COAP is a centralized platform for candidates who have qualified GATE for admissions in the participating IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) who offer M Tech programs.
It also provides job opportunities to the GATE qualified candidates in the recruitments offered by the participating PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings).
Every participating institute or PSUs have their own selection process and follow their own norms and guidance, hence applications need to be filled in the respective institutes or PSUs separately for seeking admission or job.
Participating in COAP is offered for no cost. Candidates should compulsorily register on this portal to avail COAP registration number which is required during the application process of participating institute offering PG courses or Job opportunities based on the GATE score.

GATE Counselling 2024 Registration
GATE counselling procedures are different in the CCMT and COAP processes. In GATE counselling through CCMT, participating institutes provide their offers in the CCMT portal and candidates are required to register and apply for their preferred PG programs and respective institutes on the same web portal.
In GATE counselling through COAP 2024, institutes participating in the counselling will offer their seats on their institute’s official website. Candidates have to register on the COAP portal and then can apply on the respective institute website for their desired preferences through their COAP registration number.
GATE Counselling Applying Procedure
The outline of the procedure for applying for GATE Counselling is as follows:
Attempting GATE exam: Candidates need to appear for the GATE examination conducted once a year by any of the reputed institutes among IITs and IISc.
Attaining GATE Score: Candidates should obtain marks equal to or more than the GATE cut-off marks released for the attended GATE paper. Later, based on the marks obtained in the specific paper for the maximum marks of 100 and the number of candidates attempting the papers, the normalized GATE score out of 1000 for the candidate will be awarded along with the GATE All India Rank.
PG Programs and Institutes: Candidates should search for the Postgraduate programs offered by the institutes participating in the various GATE counselling processes and should decide their preferences.
Register in COAP/CCMT: Based on the programs offered by the participating institutes, candidates shall register in the respective counselling portal.
Apply to Programs in Institutes: In CCMT, the institutes offer their seats for programs or job opportunities and candidates need to apply to them on the CCMT portal. Preferences & Choices: Candidates can apply for the programs based on the offers made by the institute and their choice as per their preferences and eligibility criteria.
Accept Offers: In the counselling process, candidates are advised to consider the offers they receive from the institutes they had applied to and make wise decisions in accepting the offer as per their preferences.
Admission: Candidates shall follow the procedure specified by the respective institute and report to the institute. This process may include fee payment, submitting required documents followed by the verification, and other formalities.

GATE Counselling 2024 Important Points
Candidates can access the information brochure of COAP 2024 on its official website or by clicking on the link provided.
To register for COAP 2024, use the GATE score, preferably the highest score. If you have multiple GATE scores from previously attended GATE exams, provide all the scores secured till date.
If there is any mismatch with the candidate’s name on the GATE scorecard and the registered account, the candidate can email the helpdesk addressing the issue with all the necessary details.

GATE Counselling Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must be Indian Nationals.
Candidates should have valid GATE scores (Qualified in GATE 2024/2023/2022).
For General and OBC categories, a minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% of the total marks must be obtained in the qualifying exam of graduation. SC, ST, and PwD category candidates are granted a 5% relaxation, requiring a minimum GPA of 6.0 or 55%.
GATE Counselling Fees
There are no fees for registration in COAP for GATE Counselling. Once the candidate receives the admission offer from the participating institute and accepts the offer, payment of fees must be done as part of the admission process in the admission portal of the respective participating institute.
The amount of fees to be paid and the schedule for fees payment may vary from one institute to another. Even though it is free of cost to participate in COAP, participating institutes may charge for the application fees.
GATE Counselling 2024 Important Dates
GATE Counselling 2024 has begun with the registration of GATE COAP 2024, which started on 19th March 2024. Candidates can view the offers made by the participating institutes on the COAP portal, and the first round of GATE COAP 2024 will take place from 13th to 15th May 2024.
Subsequently, four more counselling rounds will be held until 10th June 2024. Moreover, additional rounds may be provided based on the vacancy till the last, from 15th June to 11th July 2024.

GATE counselling mainly consists of various rounds where candidates can check the availability of seats in any preferred program offered by participating institutes.

Rounds in CCMN JAM Counselling

There are two special rounds for the Candidates who have not been able to join the regular three rounds for some reasons. The NSR round is for the National Sports Round Counselling for the candidate belonging to the sports quota.
